The Chain

The Chain is a thoroughly page-turning YA novel by Antony Millen.

“I will be so surprised if this novel doesn't hit the best seller list. What a fantastic read. Highly recommend it, folks.”

- Cindy Boucher

The Chain is set in 2043. The world is run by the Global Domain, which enforces compulsory online presence for every ‘eartizen’ with slogans like "Privacy Prevents Prosperity and Peace," and "Secrecy Threatens Security."

They know what every person is doing, what they’re searching, and even exactly where they are at all times. The Domain have conditioned populous to consider this completely normal and wholly beneficial. There is no hiding anything from their anti-encryption program, ICALL.

The story begins in rural New Zealand, where former journalist, Fenton Ouvert, tasks his sons with finding a flash drive that had been hidden “at the end of a chain of clue-bearers around the world.” It contains files that could be used unravel the ICALL programme and free the world from the Domain.

“Travelling the globe, the Ouvert boys locate the links, but what will their journey reveal about their father and the effects of the Global Domain's dominance? And what will their quest mean for the world when they reach the end of the chain?”

Originally from Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Antony moved to New Zealand with his wife and two children in 1997. He has lived in Taumarunui, New Zealand, since then.

In 2013, he launched his first novel, Redeeming Brother Murrihy. He followed this in 2014 with Te Kauhanga: A Tale of Space(s).

“How anyone could dream up such characters escapes me. Between them they allow their creator, the author, to weave a story so original, I defy anyone to find one remotely like it. Highly recommended.”

– Tui Allen, author of Ripple.
