Nix Whittaker

Nix Whittaker is an author of YA science fiction and steampunk fantasy novels.

The term ‘page turner’ is thrown around a lot these days... but with Nix, it genuinely applies.

She aims to write books "which can be read by the whole family, from people who love a mystery science fiction to those who want to curl up with a sweet YA romance."

Whittaker’s works are easy to read and with well constructed plots and just the right amount of world building.

Her characters are engaging; you want to get to know them and see how they develop. It is hard not to get invested in their journeys and their relationships, romantic or otherwise. They each have their own goals, pasts, gifts, quirks, and eccentricities. Not one of them is perfect, but that’s why you love them.

Nix was born in South Africa and moved to New Zealand as a teen. She has been devouring science fiction literature from a young age, so it’s only natural that she has been inspired to craft her own stories.

Whittaker’s Wyvern Chronicles series is a swashbuckling steampunk sci-fi fantasy adventure. There are hybrids, dragons, airships, mechanicals and pirates. But this fantastic setting is a just the world where it all takes place, Nix doesn’t allow it to overwhelm the story or smother the characters.

In the first book Blazing Blunderbuss, we meet Hara - a smart, tough, no-nonsense woman prone to attracting trouble; and Gideon - a mathematician... and a dragon. The relationship between the two is witty and immersing.

"Things become complicated when they accidentally steal a pirate ship. Throw in a plot to kill dragons and a politician willing to risk the wrath of the empire. Together they can help each other out of trouble or find it."

Hero Is A Man is the first installment in Whittaker’s Glyph Warrior series, a collection of overlapping stand-alone novels set in a post-war and post-epic-global-warming world.

Halcyon, an eccentric genius, invents a way to use biotechnology implanted as tattooed glyphs to essentially hack the human body, ramping up potentially anything, including healing and strength.

Down-to-earth and burly Misha unwittingly becomes her test subject.

"Misha has never met someone like Halcyon. He has kept his nose clean and he has stayed out of trouble. The blue haired little genius has trouble written all over her as she draws him into a world of science that is worlds ahead of everything else that it seems like magic. But Misha is ready for some magic in his life; he isn't so sure the crazy inventor was ready for him."
